Social Media and the Gospel

Social Media and the Gospel:  the Vocation of the Daughters of St. Paul in the Church

The prologue of the Constitutions and Directory of the Pius Society of the Daughters of Saint Paul summarizes the nature of our life: "Called and consecrated to live in Christ the Master to proclaim Christ with the means of social communication in the spirit of the beatitudes, in fraternal communion and in prayer."

Our vocation to live Christ is so much intertwined with the proper use of media, and so each day for us is Communication's Day.

The abundance of talents overflow in social media world. Thanks to the efforts of contemporary men and women-- we are brought closer-- unbounded by time and space

The internet is a saving grace: we come to know the social realities, we are challenged to think of the best solution to the social crises and do something in concrete.

The great challenge is how to communicate our thoughts that will shape minds and hearts towards what is true, good and beautiful for the common good.

A century ago, the young James Alberione had a vision during the midnight prayer at the Cathedral in Alba

"Evangelization with the instruments of social communication must be carried out by persons who have conformed their entire existence to Christ, who have modeled their lives completely on Him, who are living witnesses to Him, who have made Him the whole meaning of their lives." -Blessed James Alberione (Founder of the Pauline Family)

Celebrating 50 Years!

World Communication's Day is of utmost importance. Vatican Council II's Inter Mirifica, (Decree on Social Communication) was the first document released; recommending a yearly, global celebrations of Communication's Day on Ascension Sunday.

World Communication's Day 2016 theme:
"Communication and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter"

Together with Bible Sunday, the Daughters of St. Paul, in its Constitutions are obliged to work with the local Church to celebrate this day each year.  With this in my mind and heart, I tried to do something within 'my' classroom in Dar-Ul-Naim (House of Blessings), a formation house of Franciscans pre-novices.

A surprise invitation was given to the priests residing in Dar-Ul-Naim, the first year students of the Order of Friars Minor and of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Mr. Kamran Chaudhry, a journalist of AsiaNews.it was also invited to grace the occasion and to challenge the students to use media in a professional way.  Communication and Mercy are twin words which the various religious orders witness, moreso of the Franciscan and the Sisters of Charity.

In the above photo are the Sisters of Charity of St. Jeanne Antide whose charity is directly communicated through their care of Dar-Ul-Khrisma (House of Destitute) and in running a school for the poor. For the Daughters of St. Paul, it is "Charity of the Truth".

(I will complete this blog. I just need to sleep... Goodnight).
